Now that the cold weather seems to have set in I’ll be making LOTS of warm beverages in the crock pot. It’s almost like it’s an obsession.
It’s just so easy to put what it is that I want in a crock pot before I get in the shower in the mornings, when i get done with lunch or when I’m washing up the dishes from supper. Then within the next couple of hours VOILA! I have something delicious and warm….. not to mention oh so comforting.
There’s just something about holding a mug of your favorite warm beverage in your cool little hands with that sweet smell tickling the inside of your nose. Mmmmm Mmmmm good!
This crock pot Nutella hot chocolate came to be because I was out of chocolate chips, cocoa powder, chocolate syrup…. ANYTHING CHOCOLATE! How did I let THAT happen?! That is so not normal for me to be out of chocolate everything.
I quickly spotted a lonely container of Nutella on the shelf in my pantry and decided it would be perfect warmed up with some milk. OHH EMM GEE!!! You have NO idea how perfect it was.

This recipe was enough for two people to each have an 8 ounce cup of it (or one person to have two 8 ounce cups… just sayin’), but you could easily multiply the recipe to serve a crowd.
Here is how I did it:
- 2 cups of milk (whole, skim, soy, almond, lactose free… any kind will work)
- a heaping 1/4 cup of Nutella
- whipped topping or marshmallows (optional)
In a 1 – 1 1/2 quart crock pot add 1 cup of the milk and the Nutella. Whisk together until the Nutella is completely dissolved and incorporated.
Add the remainder of the milk and whisk to inocorporate it well. When it’s well incorporated the milk will be all frothy on top.
Place the lid on and turn the crock to low. Let heat completely through for 1 – 2 hours (mine took about an hour and a half).
Whisk one last time before serving to make sure everyone gets an equal amount of that great Nutella flavor. Serve topped with your favorite whipped topping or marshmallows.
I could have drank ten times this amount of this Nutella hot chocolate if I had made that much. It was THAT good. I think I may even make this to be heating up while we do our trick or treating on Halloween.
*NOTE* For those that may not know what Nutella is: It’s a chocolate hazelnut spread that can be found next to the peanut butter in the grocery store. I have never had a problem finding it in any grocery store I’ve looked. DELICIOUSNESS!
