Soda Roast

This is a simple recipe that is also very versatile (see below).

  • 2 - 3 lb beef roast
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 -  12 ounce cans of soda (I've used pepsi, coke, root beer, dr. pepper... whatever dark cola you like)
  • 1/2 cup of soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup of worcestershire sauce
Season your roast before placing in a 3 - 5 quart crock pot. Pour both cans of soda, soy sauce and worcestershire sauce over roast. Cook on low for 7 - 8 hours. If you would like to add some root vegetables, you can throw some in around the 4 hour mark (I just use onions, carrots and potatoes). When done, serve to your favorite friends and family (they'll be thankful (-: )

  1. Going to try this recipe this weekend. I've heard that soda really tenderizes the meat. Could I use diet coke? Or is the sugar important?

    1. I've heard that the fully loaded soda with sugar is the best because the sugar helps brown and tenderizes the muscle of the meat. I haven't tried it yet but I will.

  2. OH... I've never thought of using a diet coke. I'm not sure what it is in the sodas that make the meat so tender, but I think it would be worth trying the diet. If you do give it a try with a diet one let us know what you think of it :o)
